Federation & Resolution

When agents work across departments, across providers, or across companies, resolution is the hard problem. Two sides need to reach agreement — and that agreement needs an audit trail that starts before the work began.

AGLedger provides shared resolution with a shared record. Both sides agree to the mandate before work starts. That agreement is locked, signed, and hash-chained. When the work is delivered, both sides can accept or dispute. The mandate reaches a terminal state: FULFILLED, FAILED, REMEDIATED, or REJECTED. The full chain — from original agreement through delivery to resolution — is preserved.

Sovereignty by design

Each party keeps their own vault, their own Ed25519 keys, their own data. A mandate between Company A and Company B exists in both vaults — but each side controls their own copy. The protocol crosses boundaries. The data doesn't.

Customers define their own schemas for their domain — financial services, logistics, healthcare, whatever fits their operations. When they federate, they share those schemas with their partners so both sides speak the same structured language. The schema is the contract. The protocol is the coordination. The vault is sovereign.

Dispute resolution

When both sides don't agree, the protocol supports escalation:

Tier 1 — Self-resolution

Between principal and performer. Revision requests, remediation, re-delivery. Most disputes resolve here.

Tier 2 — Third-party mediation

An accessor — auditor, arbitrator, compliance officer — is granted access to the mandate chain by the parties themselves. The mediator sees the full cryptographic record.

Tier 3 — Human-in-the-loop escalation

The dispute is surfaced for human review with the complete record of what was agreed, what was delivered, and where it diverged.

Settlement Signal™

When money is involved, the Settlement Signal (SETTLE/HOLD) routes to your payment platforms via webhook. As agent-to-agent payment rails come online, this signal becomes the accountability layer those systems need. AGLedger doesn't move money — it produces the Settlement Signal your financial systems act on.

Why it matters

Cross-boundary work needs shared agreement, not assumptions. Without a shared record that predates the work, there is no resolution — only reconstruction and argument.

Federation with sovereignty means each side participates without giving up control. Your data stays yours. Your keys stay yours. Your schemas reflect your domain. The protocol is the common ground.
